August 26am 2012     God’s promise to be with us .Ezk.  34:23-31

Exile Ezkiel promises them to be with them and bring them  together.  Jeremiah is in Jerusalem giving the same message.  Ezkiel is in Babylon.
Ezekiel 34: 23 I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd. 24 I the Lord will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the Lord have spoken. 25 “‘I will make a covenant of peace with them and rid the land of wild beasts so that they may live in the desert and sleep in the forests in safety. 26 I will bless them and the places surrounding my hill.a I will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing. 27 The trees of the field will yield their fruit and the ground will yield its crops; the people will be secure in their land. They will know that I am the Lord, when I break the bars of their yoke and rescue them from the hands of those who enslaved them. 28 They will no longer be plundered by the nations, nor will wild animals devour them. They will live in safety, and no one will make them afraid. 29 I will provide for them a land renowned for its crops, and they will no longer be victims of famine in the land or bear the scorn of the nations. 30 Then they will know that I, the Lord their God, am with them and that they, the house of Israel, are my people, declares the Sovereign Lord. 31 You my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, are people, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign Lord.’”
God’s first action would be to restore Israel to her land from the nations and to pasture her like sheep in good grazing land. God will do what the false shepherds had failed to do—tend. . . . search . . . bring back. . . . strengthen, and shepherd . . . with justice. This prophecy was not fulfilled when Israel returned to her land after the Babylonian Captivity. It still awaits future fulfillment in the Millennium.

Who are the sheep?
Why do sheep need a shepherd?
Who was the shephereds?
Who will be the shepherds?
What is a covenant and what is a covenant of peace?
Do we need peace?

What are they promised?

  1.  One Good Shepherd.
  2. The Lord will be the shepherd.
  3. David will be their shephered.
  4. A covenant of peace between them and God.
  5. God will protect them and give them peace and safety.
  6. I will bless those who live around God’s holy hill.
  7. God will send showers of blessings.  Why showers?
  8. The trees will bear  fruit
  9. The ground will yield crops.
  10. God will rescue the people from their bondage.
  11. They won’t be plundered anymore.
  12. They will be secure and live with no fear.
  13.  God will give them their food from the land so that famine will no longer rob them.
  14. They will no longer be the scorn of the nations.
  15.   I will be there God.
  16. They will be God’s  people.
  17. You are the sheep of my people.

a Or I will make them and the places surrounding my hill a blessing
