Dec. 28, 2008pm  Can You Squeeze Into Your New Clothes?  Isaiah 61:10-62:3

by Ron George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

Did you get any new clothes for Christmas?  You know when you get clothes by the size, shape, and weight of the box.  Then comes the moment of truth.  You open the box and take out you new shirt, shoes, or etc.  Will it fit?  Is it the right color or type of clothes that you want or like?  If it doesn’t fit or you don’t like it, then what?  Are you going to say that you were disappointed or want something else?  Do you want to take it back?  Do you want to take it back and trade it in?  Guess what God gave you for Christmas.  He gave you new clothes.
First, in Is. 61 the prophet shows his delight in the Lord and why he is so happy with the new clothes the Lord has given His people.  Then in 62 the Lord speaks and shows what he has done and will continue to do for His people.

Isaiah 61: 10 I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. 11 For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations.
62     For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, till her righteousness shines out like the dawn, her salvation like a blazing torch. 2 The nations will see your righteousness, and all kings your glory; you will be called by a new name that the mouth of the Lord will bestow. 3 You will be a crown of splendor in the Lord’s hand, a royal diadem in the hand of your God. 4 No longer will they call you Deserted, or name your land Desolate. But you will be called Hephzibah,a and your land Beulahb; for the Lord will take delight in you, and your land will be married.

What did God give you for Christmas?

  1. Delight in the Lord.  He was happy with his gifts from God.  Can you delight in Him?  How do you?

  1. Do you rejoice in God?  What should you?  How do you?
  1. He rejoiced because God gave Him new clothes.  What did the Lord give you for Christmas?  He gave you new clothes.  These are the gifts of Christmas.  Salvation.  Robes of Righteousness.  A groom adorned.  A bride adorned.  These clothes are sprouts coming up out of the ground.

  1. He rejoiced because God had made his garden to grow.  The soil and the garden cause seeds to grow, so the Lord causes us to praise and be righteous.  Can we create an environment for God to grow his garden?  Do we grow it or does God?  How has God grown us and how can He use us to grow others?
  2. Do they fit?  But how can we if we are sinful?  How can we fit if we are not saved, righteous, following the Lord?

This is what God says He has done for us:  v. 1-3…

  1. God will speak up for you.

  1. He wants you to shine out in the dark.  He will make you to shine.
  1. He wants to save us and set us on fire for all to see the light of His Spirit burning in us.

  1. Everyone will see you and call you by a new name that will be given to you by the Lord.  What is God’s name for you?
  1. God will take you up as a crown in the Lord’s hand.

  1. God will take pleasure in us as a groom takes pleasure in his bride.
  1. God will give you a new name.

  1. God will let the world know that we belong to Him.  We will live in Beulah Land.  This is the place where those live who are married to the Lord.  Sweet Beulah Land.!!!

a Hephzibah means my delight is in her.

b Beulah means married.
