December 14, 2008 pm Christmas (Some assembly required!)   Mark 1:1-8

by Ron Geroge Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

God wants you and me to prepare the way for Jesus.  He chooses us to participate in his plan for all of Humankind.
Mark 1     The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.a
2 It is written in Isaiah the prophet: “I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way”b— 3 “a voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.’”c 4 And so John came, baptizing in the desert region and preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 5 The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River. 6 John wore clothing made of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey. 7 And this was his message: “After me will come one more powerful than I, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and untie. 8 I baptize you withd water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

How was he able to build?  What did he build?  Preparation
People get ready, Jesus is coming, Soon He’ll be coming home.
How was John the message?  What message did he preach?

Why does God want you and me to participate in his coming to the world and to individuals?  He chose Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, wise men, the inn keeper, John the Baptist, Herod, and others.

What would God want you to do?  How would God want you to participate?
Does He want you?  Do you want Him?

What can we do?  What did John do?
His life.  Birth and death.
His message.
His relationship to God and to Jesus.
His passing.
