August 17, 2008am  All In The Family II   Genesis 45

by Ron George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist.org

The Big reveal.   Joseph the dreamer and out cast becomes Joseph the ruler over all Egypt and over his own family. God had revealed his plan to Joseph in a dream.  Now he reveals himself to his brothers.  Reconciliation takes an initial step.  He begins to patch up the rip.  Problems can be healed.  Sin can be forgiven.  Grace takes the first step.  If God can forgive and forget can we?  What happened to Joseph?

Genesis 45     Then Joseph could no longer control himself before all his attendants, and he cried out, “Have everyone leave my presence!” So there was no one with Joseph when he made himself known to his brothers. 2 And he wept so loudly that the Egyptians heard him, and Pharaoh’s household heard about it.
3 Joseph said to his brothers, “I am Joseph! Is my father still living?” But his brothers were not able to answer him, because they were terrified at his presence.
4 Then Joseph said to his brothers, “Come close to me.” When they had done so, he said, “I am your brother Joseph, the one you sold into Egypt! 5 And now, do not be distressed and do not be angry with yourselves for selling me here, because it was to save lives that God sent me ahead of you. 6 For two years now there has been famine in the land, and for the next five years there will not be plowing and reaping. 7 But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.a
8 “So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt. 9 Now hurry back to my father and say to him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt. Come down to me; don’t delay. 10 You shall live in the region of Goshen and be near me—you, your children and grandchildren, your flocks and herds, and all you have. 11 I will provide for you there, because five years of famine are still to come. Otherwise you and your household and all who belong to you will become destitute.’
12 “You can see for yourselves, and so can my brother Benjamin, that it is really I who am speaking to you. 13 Tell my father about all the honor accorded me in Egypt and about everything you have seen. And bring my father down here quickly.”
14 Then he threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin embraced him, weeping. 15 And he kissed all his brothers and wept over them. Afterward his brothers talked with him.

The power to change the way things are.  Joseph had received God’s grace and had grace to give.  Wait to see what God can do with your sins.  Joseph had seen how his brothers had changed now he was ready to reveal himself to them.
This is the rest of the story.  What to do in the middle of a rift

  1. Keep on keeping on the right way.  Keep on keeping on even through the problems.  Make good decisions and take good actions with the Lord as your guide when you are in the middle of a strange place.

  1. Be Patient and look for opportunities to do good in the name of the Lord, even if you are in a strange land.  Make some lemonade.  Maybe God has brought you into the middle of a problem or a strange land so that He can do some good through you.  Romans 8:28.  Joseph is now possibly 30 years old.  Thirteen years has passed since his captivity into Egypt.  How long are we willing to wait to do good?
  1. Look for a Savior.  Don’t look down, but look up.  Joseph was the savior who went ahead to save the people of God.  Let Him give you a great deliverance.  Come to the Savior and allow him to take of you and yours.

  1. Receive and Give God’s graceLook in the mirror.  Do you have any grace to give?  Give it or get some.  God’s amazing grace is free for the taking.  But will you take it?
  1. Keep in Touch with the Lord.  Don’t give up.  Things can change and people can change with the Lord and with time.

  1. More Problems are on the horizon.  There is a great drought coming and you can’t survive it without the Savior.  Let Him provide for you in his land.  Come to the Lord.  Move to His house.  He will provide.
  1. Get some rest and provision in the land of plenty.  Come to Him and to His land.  Be near Him.  It is too good to be true or can it be?

  1. Go to the family reunion.  The new reunion has come.  Your family may be a church a community or a job, but whatever or wherever people get together there will be a need for a reunion.  Join together with your Savior and your brother.  Jesus is the one who came and delivered you from the great drought.  Remember who you are and where you came from.  Rejoin the family.
  1. Enjoy God’s blessings.  Rejoice and weep with the one who gave you his mercy and his grace.  He was betrayed with a kiss, but now He longs to put his arms around his beloved and join together with you.

God’s grace reaches you and me.  God’s grace came to Joseph in a strange land.  Joseph received His grace and gave it to his family when the time came.  Have you received God’s grace?  Would you give it to others who have sinned?

a Or save you as a great band of survivors
