April 13, 2008am   Are you Full?  John 10:1-10

Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

Some folks never seem to get satisfied.  No matter how much they have or do they never have enough.  Life can seem empty or meaningless unless somehow they can find it.  What is missing in the lives of many?  It isn’t more stuff or more or this or that, but it is the presence of a deeper meaning.  It is the presence of the creator.  Some folks have said that when God created us He made us with a God shaped hole.  Until the time that He comes to live within and fill us up then He is the missing part of our lives.  Jesus tells a story of some sheep who are well cared for by the Shepherd.  These sheep are full.  Are you full and satisfied?

John 10     “I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. 3 The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.” 6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but they did not understand what he was telling them.
7 Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved.a He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

This is life to the full or the abundant life.

What is life to the full?

  1. You are protected from the enemies of life.  There are those who want to kill and destroy.  But these sheep have life to the full or the abundant life.

  1. You are safe within the sheepfold or the pen.  This is the family of God or the church that He has established.
  1. You are invited to come in to the safety of the pen.  Have you heard His voice?

  1. You are called by name.  The Shepherd knows you and calls you.
  1. You are given direction and led by the Shepherd.  You have meaning and know which way to go in your life.

  1. You hear His voice and follow His direction. What direction has He been leading you?  Within the church He continues to lead you.
  1. You know when you are being misled.  You will run from those who call you to harm.

  1. You have Jesus as your gate and your guide.  He is your shepherd.  He has you.
  1. You have salvation through your relationship with Him.  He is our salvation.  You cannot loose Him because He will not forget you or forsake you.

  1. You will come in and go out and find what you need and what will satisfy your life.
  1.  You will have a full life and the abundant life.  Many people have life, but how many have life more abundantly and full.  Only those who have the shepherd have life to the full.

Do you have all you need and all you want?  Are you are warm and dry. Are You fearless?  Are you protected?  Do You have purpose and meaning in your life?  Do You have direction?  Do You know which way to go?  Can you go to sleep and not worry?  Are You loved and cared for by the shepherd?  He will heal you.  He will help you.  He will strengthen you.  Let Jesus care for you as He can?  You can have life to the full.

How do you get it?  Ask Jesus to come into your heart and give your life to Him?

Do you want it?  Do you want to Him?
