What Is Sin
Man calls it an accident; God calls it an abomination. Man calls it a blunder; God calls it blindness.  Man calls it a defect; God calls it a disease.  Man calls it a chance; God calls it a choice.  Man calls it an error; God calls it an enmity.  Man calls it a fascination; God calls it a fatality.  Man calls it an infirmity; God calls it an iniquity.  Man calls it a luxury; God calls it a leprosy.  Man calls it a liberty; God calls it lawlessness.  Man calls it a trifle; God calls it a tragedy.  Man calls it a mistake; God calls it a madness.  Man calls it a weakness; God calls it willfulness. —Moody Monthly

Psalm 130  A song of ascents. 1 Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord; 2 O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. 3 If you, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? 4 But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared. 5 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. 6 My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. 7 O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with him is full redemption. 8 He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.

1.  Sin is an inescapable trap.  I am in trouble and in the debts of despair and in problems that are overcoming me. I am asking God to help me out of this pit.  That pit is my sin. But I realize that I have problems in my relationship with the Lord. I am a sinner.  I have done that which I shouldn’t have or I haven’t done what God wanted me to do.

2.  What is sin?  Have you sinned?

3.  Sin is universal:  According to Romans 1: 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
28 Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

4.  Sin is common to all people.  Sin are things we have done or not done in response to God in our life.
John 1:8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

5.  What is the result of that sin?  It is an inescapable pit.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life ina Christ Jesus our Lord.

6. There is forgiveness for sin and full redemption.
 Is there forgiveness?  Are we afraid of the Lord?  Is there fear of the Lord?
Pslam 103:11 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. 13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;

7. The sinner waits for the Lord and for his relief.
I wait for the Lord, as the watchmen wait for the morning.  I hope in the Lord.  He will help.  When?  Will I wait for Him and watch for Him?  God gives unfailing love.  God gives full redemption.  He knows his redemption will come as relief comes for the night watchman.  He looks for the dawning of a new day.  God’s new day will come to all who wait, watch, and look for Him and His unfailing love.

8.  The sinner puts his hope in the Lord’s word and His promise.  The Lord will not fail those who look to Him.  He himself will redeem us and He has through the sacrifice of our Lord who became the Lamb for us.

He will redeem us from our sins?  Are re redeemed?  What do you need to receive forgiveness for?
